Motoring to Mount Spokane We will meet at Selkirk Pizza between 9 and 9:30 AM. Driver's meeting at 9:45 AM for a 10 AM departure. Come prepared for cold temperatures at the summit. It can be brisk (but worth it!) at the top in June. After a brief stint on US 2, we will head East on Mt. Spokane Park Dr (WA-206) for 16 miles. This will bring us to the park entrance where we will park and regroup. There is a kiosk here for Discover Pass purchase. Discover Pass Website Next we will climb 2.5 miles to the summit, a 20-minute drive over narrow roadways and switchbacks. The views are breathtaking.The trek to the very peak is not for the faint of heart or anyone uncertain of their brakes. (The road typically opens by June 15 but if the snow has not cleared, it will be closed. Drive host will be checking status prior to the drive.) For those unfamiliar, this trip offers great diversity of scenery starting out in rolling wheat fields, ending at the peak of Mt. Spokane, almost six thousand feet above sea level. The view is outstanding. A surprising number of area lakes can be spotted and we can also explore the iconic Vista House. There is parking outside the gate for anyone not wanting to make the final climb. After everyone has taken in the sights, we will return via the same route back to Selkirk Pizza for lunch.
