About This Event
Join in on a laid-back late afternoon and evening scenic drive through the beauty of Whidbey Island. The adventure kicks off with a crossing on the Mukilteo ferry setting the tone for a late afternoon of great views and good company. After disembarking in Clinton, the route explores South Whidbey’s back roads for an enjoyable, spirited drive. Progressing northward, we’ll soak in the relaxed island atmosphere, pass by the historic Ft. Casey and take in sweeping coastal views near Ebey’s Landing National Historic Preserve. Along the way we’ll stop for dinner before reaching the north end of the island, where we’ll drive back onto the mainland over one of the region’s most iconic crossings at Deception Pass. The tour ends with a drive to the top of Mt. Erie, arriving before the sun slips over the horizon, capping the evening with a panoramic sunset over Puget Sound.
Timing
The timing of the drive is dependent on the Mukilteo ferry schedule and WSDOT has not yet released the summer ferry schedule at the time of this posting. Check back the week before the drive for any revised details and possibly an updated meeting time.
End of the Event
The event will end at the top of Mt. Erie on the southern edge of Anacortes, WA. Sunset is approximately 9:22pm on the night of the drive and we’ll probably be heading off the mountain by 9:30-10pm. From there we’ll split up for home. Expect to arrive home late, possibly 11:30pm-midnight if you live near Seattle.

Mt. Erie
The road up to the top of Mt. Erie is very narrow but it is paved. Parking at the top is limited, but we have tiny cars and we’re creative. The viewing areas are within 50-100 ft of parking but if we need to split up or find a spot there might be a bit more walking to the bluffs.
